The Worship Place in collaboration with AGE of Central Texas offers free CaregiverU workshop series “A Matter of Balance."  The informative series of classes for local family members is presented free of charge to the Central Texas community to help prevent devastating falls in older adults.

  • According to the CDC, every 18 seconds, someone aged 65+ is treated in an emergency department for a fall.
  • Every 35 minutes, a senior dies as a result of their injuries related to a fall.
  • The average health care cost of a fall injury totaled $19,440, which included hospital, nursing home, emergency room, and home health care - but not doctors’ services.

“A Matter of Balance” emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls and maintain an active, healthy lifestyle.  Classes are led by certified class leaders, where participants will learn to:

  • Set goals for increasing activity,
  • Make changes to reduce fall risks at home,
  • Exercise to increase strength and balance, and
  • View falls as controllable.

CaregiverU class tuition is free and is covered by a generous grant from the St. David’s Foundation and Georgetown Health Foundation.  Space is limited; for more information to register, contact Elaine Carpenter at 815-342-0862 or email
